TENTATIVE ITINERARY

DAY 1 - Friday Rock Roots and Beatles Films Who Knew the Suburbs could be so cool!

Departure times: 09.30   Return Time: approximately 18.00

To the west of London lie suburbs and small towns where British Rock was nurtured, growing out of such bands as the Yardbirds (Clapton, Page, Beck), The Rolling Stones and The Who. Later the same places gave birth to Queen, The Sex Pistols and contemporary bands such as Jamiroquai and The Magic Numbers. Unsurprisingly, as the TV and film studios are situated out west, the region was the locations for Beatle films. ‘A Hard Day’s Night’, ‘Help’, ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ and the original Ed Sullivan show film clip. This fantastic day takes you to the Crawdaddy, Eel Pie Island, the Ealing Blues Club sites. You’ll see where the Stones started, Jagger & Richards’ homes and other related sites. ‘Who’ fans get the lot! Homes, early gigs sites, schools! There’s excitement for Queen, Led Zep and Sex Pistol fans. And Beatle fanatics can get themselves in a host of immediately recognisable film locations with lunch (not included in the price) at the pub used in Ringo’s ‘runaway’ sequences in ‘A Hard day’s Night’. Adding to the day, you’ll be seeing a stately home, taking a historic riverside walk and some interesting English towns not normally on the regular tourist routes.

DAY 2 - Saturday Free day in London

You are free to do as you wish in the Capitol, spoilt for choice! We are happy to assist you with making arrangements: do the hop-on/hop-off bus, go to a rock museum exhibit, jump on the party bus this evening or get tickets for a gig! Whatever your choice, we’re here to help! (Our advice is free. Cost of other tickets isn’t included in the Weekend Rock package rate.) Check out our London Tours page for some ideas.

Some other ideas? Well, how about hunting for rare vinyl, or CDs, or hunting for rock books and posters at one of the city’s many rare record shops, at Portobello Road, or Camden Town flea markets? Or shop for the very latest street fashions along the King’s Road, or the East End’s Brick Lane. Perhaps lunch at the Rolling Stones ‘Sticky Fingers’ restaurant, or a burger at the world’s first Hard Rock Café, and then a visit to their memorabilia vault to see Hendrix’s ‘Flying Gibson’?

In the evening, London’s top venues include the O2, The Jazz Café, Astoria, Hammersmith Apollo, the famed 100 Club and may, many pubs that feature live music. IT’S YOUR DAY!

DAY 4 - Monday Pink Floyd Day, A Tale of Two Cities Cambridge and London

Departure time: 08.30   Return Time: approximately 18.00

Pink Floyd were a band of two cities; the ancient, medieval university city of Cambridge, and the UK’s capital of London. This great tour combines the two and gives you a chance to see one of England’s most attractive and historic cities and parts of London you otherwise not see, while exploring the Floyd’s heritage. You’ll see the early homes of Gilmour, Waters and Barrett, their schools and colleges, early gigs sites, ‘Granchester Meadows’, and Syd’s last home. While seeing these you’ll also be getting a guided tour of the historic city and university! Then to London where this afternoon you’ll see such sites as the Britannia Row recording studio, the school that provided the kids choir on the ‘The Wall’, the Regent’s Street Poly where the band was formed, various of the band’s London houses, legendary gig sites and Abbey Road Studios. During the day you get the full history of the band from your knowledgeable guide and, of course, a day listening to rare, obscure and well-known Floyd music!

This afternoon you can either return to London with your tour guide or, if you prefer, spend more time independently exploring Cambridge and catch the train back to London (we can book your ticket for you but the cost of the rail ticket is not included in your package price. A one way fare costs approximately GBP10.)

“Just wanted to follow up with you after the tour! We just got home on Sunday from our holiday, and the London portion of our trip was definitely one of the highlights!! I really, REALLY enjoyed our Clash/Joe tour of London. Damon was great, and really tried to help us see everything we wanted to see...he definitely tried to get us to all of our most important sites (and even threw in a few Jimi Hendrix and Beatles spots for good measure!) Thanks for all of your help in setting this up! I had a BLAST.”
