Shakespeare’s Globe
Throughout the year, a fascinating guided tour of the Globe Theatre is included in your visit to Shakespeare's Globe Exhibition. Let one of our guides bring this extraordinary space to life.
During matinee performances in the theatre, when guided tours of the Globe are not possible, visitors will be taken to the nearby site of Bankside's first theatre: the Rose. The space for which Christopher Marlowe and Ben Jonson wrote their greatest plays and in which Shakespeare learned his trade, the Rose is the only Elizabethan playhouse that has been excavated on a large scale by archaeologists.
A short film introducing the colourful history of the Rose, the Bankside area and the ongoing discoveries made at the site is also on show at Shakespeare's Globe Exhibition.
Theatre Royal, Drury Lane
Take a tour any day of the week at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Two costume-clad actors lead the tour from front of house to backstage and under the stage where the impressive hydraulics system can be seen. The history of the theatre and the several other theatres that previously stood on the same site is unravelled. The tours take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 2.15pm and 4.45pm. Alternatively they are available at 10.15am on Wednesdays and Saturdays and, if you arrange it beforehand, tours can take place at 12 noon on Sundays.
National Theatre
Get up close and personal at the National Theatre as the tour takes in three auditoriums, scenic workshops, front-of-house and the backstage area. The tour guides are knowledgeable, enthusiastic and ready to answer all your questions and make it an unforgettable experience. The tours run for about seventy-five minutes and are taken three times a day from Monday to Saturday.
Royal Opera House

Behind the big voices is an intriguing history, an impressive present and an exciting future and the tours bring it all to life, providing excellent insight into a theatre at the heart of international opera. The tours also give details on productions taking place at the moment and the Royal Opera House’s recent redevelopment.

Theatre Royal Haymarket

A colourful history adds mystery and intrigue to the tours as visitors are encouraged to keep an eye out for the infamous Buckstone ghost who, rumour has it, can still be found wandering around his beloved theatre. It makes an ideal treat for those who love a good ghost story and will leave the viewing public amazed by the theatre’s character.
Theatre Museum Guided Tours: Lively tours of the galleries
Every visitor to the Theatre Museum can participate in a daily programme of workshops, demonstrations and guided tours, run by a team of professional theatre practitioners and educationalists. Here you can operate puppets, try out make-up and costumes, and walk on stage.
Tours of the galleries and exhibitions feature British theatre from Shakespeare's day to the present.
During the school holidays this tour is replaced by an interactive tour which provides an opportunity for young people to flex their acting muscles and find the answers to some interesting questions!
