Literary Kent and Sussex
A great day out from London - Try something a Brit Different!
What a wealth of literary history in the counties of Kent and Sussex! We visit as many sites as possible on our Literary Southern England tour but for a hard core specialty interest in a specific author or for those who don’t have the time for a 4 day tour, here is your solution!
We will design a tour appropriate for your particular interests and for the time/distance possible for a day trip from London.
Literary sites in Kent and Sussex include: Ashdown Forest and the world of AA Milne’s Winnie the Pooh, Knole House (Virginia Woolf’s Orlando,) the Sissinghurst of Vita Sackville-West, Rudyard Kipling’s Bateman’s, Dickens’ Rochester and Rye, Lamb House and Henry James, Winston Churchill’s Chartwell, Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes sites, Chaucer’s Canterbury...
Fridays only, enjoy “Bloomsbury in Sussex” - visit Virgina Woolf’s Monk’s House, Vanessa Bell’s Charleston Farmhouse where the Woolfs, the Bells, Duncan Grant, Maynard Keynes, Lytton Strachey, T S Eliot and E M Forster among others enjoyed their weekends, and the magical Berwick Church and its murals painted by friends from Charleston Farmhouse.
