Victorian Christmas Markets, Rochester & London Day Trip

Tis the season, get youself into the festive spirit!

Available for private departures, date according to festival schedules

Rochester is a gem of a city, with its cathedral and Norman castle, it overflows with Dickens’s sites, such as plaques on the places mentioned in his books and ‘Mrs Havisham’s House.’ Dickens himself lived here for a time.  Each year, early December brings Victorian festivities to Rochester in the form of a ‘Dickensian’ Christmas Market!

The Rochester Christmas Market will be taking place in the iconic setting of the castle gardens. Around 70 market stalls under canvas marquees will be offering visitors a wide variety of festive gifts, souvenirs and novelty stocking fillers. During the market festive lighting, decorations, Christmas tree and traditional family fun fair will be complimented by a daily programme of entertainment and music. Come and enjoy the festive atmosphere, perhaps enjoy a traditional style hog roast, hot chocolate or roasted chestnuts as you browse the wide range of stalls.

Back into London via the olde coaching route, an area well known to Dickens and earlier Chaucer and Shakespeare, to another wonderful Christmas market. Southbank Centre Christmas Market is home to 80 wooden chalets filled with festive food, drink, gifts and treats run along the twinkling riverside. Enjoy your choice of mulled wine, bratwurst and ginger bread whilst taking in the lights, sights and sounds of London at Christmas time!
