Magnificent scenery of mountains, valleys and lakes from the south to the north. The tour includes a lake cruise, a visit to the 4,000 year old Castlerigg Stone Circle set high on the fells, and time in Keswick. You travel over passes, through beautiful valleys, see waterfalls and Lakeland villages. You have plenty of stops for admiring the views and taking photographs. This is a tour not to be missed.
*High Mountain Passes Spectacular - The "High Adventure" (Tour Ref: C) Every Day, 09:45 - 17:30; $75 USD per person
This is The Mountain Goat’s famous High Adventure Tour travelling over the Wrynose and Hardknott Passes from Langdale to Eskdale. Complimentary coffee and biscuits are served at the top of Wrynose. After traversing the passes we stop at the Roman Fort, 1,000 ft, up on the fells. You have the opportunity to walk through the fort and see the fantastic view to Upper Eskdale, Scafell and Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountains. We take a ride on the miniature Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, before a lunch stop at one of the valley inns. In the afternoon we drive to Wastwater, Britain’s favourite view, and take in the views up into Wasdale and across the lake to the famous 1,500 foot screes. From here we head north over Cold Fell, passing, in the distance, Ennerdale Water and alongside Loweswater, through the Lorton Valley and over Whinlatter Pass to the visitor centre for a refreshment stop and a look out for the red squirrels. On our journey back to Windermere we see Bassenthwaite Lake and pass by Thirlmere, Grasmere and Rydal Water.
*Southern Lakeland, Holker Hall & Cartmel (Tour Ref: D) Every Thursday, 10.00 - 16.30; $75 USD per person
This tour takes you through the gentle limestone country of the Southern Lake District, over hills with wonderful Lakeland views and the famous damson valleys. We stop off at a 1930’s railway station for mid-morning refreshments. We spend time at Lord and Lady Cavendish’s Holker Hall, tour the house and walk the gardens. Another stop is at the monastic village of Cartmel, famous for its Priory and sticky toffee pudding shop.
*The Yorkshire Dales (Tour Ref: E) Every Wednesday, 09.30 - 17.45; $70 USD per person
This full day tour takes you to the best of the Yorkshire Dales. Leaving the Lakes and Sedbergh behind us we head up through Garsdale and see the Settle Carlisle Railway snaking its way over the highest part of its journey through Mallerstang. We drive under one of its big viaducts before heading down into Wensleydale and Hardraw for a coffee stop. From here we cross the moors past The Buttertubs and descend into Swaledale. We journey down through the valley to the small market town of Reeth for lunch. In the afternoon we cross the moors again to Wensleydale at Castle Bolton, where we see the imposing castle in which Mary, Queen of the Scots, was imprisoned. As we journey up the valley we stop at Aysgarth Falls to see this spectacular waterfall. From here we make our way to Hawes, the highest market town in Wensleydale, for a stop. Continuing on from Hawes, we drive up Widdale and drop down into Dentdale with its lovely village of Dent, famous for the Dent knitters. We complete our journey back to Windermere via Kirkby Lonsdale.
*The Eastern Lakes and Lowther Valley (Tour Ref: F) Every Friday, 9.45 - 17.30; $70 USD per person
This is a full day tour to some of the remotest parts of the Lake District. We cross over the Kirkstone Pass as we head to Glenridding to catch the boat to Howtown on the other side of Ullswater. Your driver meets you and takes you to Martindale to see the 800 year old church nestling under the fells. We drive past Fusedale up to Pooley Bridge for a lunch stop. From here we go to Askham, a very old moorland village, set near Lowther Park where we can see the façade of Lowther Castle, the ancestral home of the Earls of Lonsdale. Before going to Haweswater our drive takes us through the remote Lowther Valley, a famous horse breeding area in the days of the Border Reivers. Haweswater has to be the remotest lake in the area set under the eastern fells. We drive right to the top of the valley, before making our way to Shap Abbey, home of the White monks. Our last stop is the village of Orton before driving over Shap Summit and making our way back to Windermere.
