Accommodation: The Percy Arms Hotel, Otterburn; This is a coaching Inn from days gone by which has been extensively refurbished. The hotel has excellent accommodation and the hospitality and food is of a high standard.
The Tour Itinerary:
Wednesday We meet you at Newcastle railway station or coach station between 1:00pm and 3.30pm for the 45 minute journey to Otterburn. After settling in at the hotel, there will be a drinks party before dinner where you will have the opportunity of meeting your fellow guests.
Thursday Today’s tour takes us into Scotland where we visit Jedburgh, famous for its beautiful abbey which you will have time to explore if you so wish. We continue to the next Abbey town, Melrose, where we have lunch. In the afternoon, we stop at Scots View, with views over the River Tweed and across to the Eildon Hills. There is the opportunity to walk to the nearby Wallace Monument. Our final call of the day is to the third Abbey town, Kelso.
Friday Our tour will take us to Wallington Hall, with its lawns, walled garden, lakes and woodland.?We lunch at Wallington, then a tour of the Hall. On leaving Wallington, we make our way to Keilder Water, the largest man made lake in the U.K. and drive along its western shore to the Visitor Centre. We finish the day with the 15 mile forest drive.
Saturday We set off for the east coast via some of the hamlets hugging the south side of the Cheviots. Continuing on to Holy Island, we visit Lindisfarne Priory. After lunch the return tour is through Bamburgh, Seahouses, and Beadnell. Timings are dependant upon the tides. If tides are not suitable, this day may be changed to another. Sunday We leave the hotel midday for the short drive to Rothbury for an early lunch. In the afternoon, the interesting Alnwick Gardens are our main feature. We also visit Alnwick Castle, the 13th century home of the Earl of Northumberland. Our journey back to Otterburn is via the Cheviot hills.
Monday Today we explore the north side of the Cheviots, a very remote and beautiful area. We also visit the estate villages of Ford and Etal and visit the site of the Battle of Flodden Fields.
Tuesday Our first visit is to the small and ancient town of Corbridge. From here we make our way to Hexham where you will have ample time to explore the Abbey. After lunch we drive to Hadrian’s Wall and visit Chesters Walled Garden.
Wednesday Today is departure day, and we take you after breakfast through to Newcastle upon Tyne to catch your train or coach.
