Scotland Family Vacation - The Clan Tour of Scotland
Children Welcome on this 7 Day Special Scottish Family Escorted Tour

UNIQUE SMALL GROUP TOUR - SCOTLAND FAMILY VACATION DESIGNED JUST FOR YOU - LIMITED TO 15 PERSONS.

“Simply the Best Way to Travel with Children!” In Scots Gaelic, the word clan means family or children. This very special Small Group Tour of Scotland for your clan combines enriching experiences in the charming towns of Scotland staying at child friendly hotels and B&B’s - even a romantic castle. Fun adventures include Harry Potter train trips, castle visits and traditional music. This is an escorted family vacation with activities for everyone. A totally flexible, guided tour – an adventure you’ll never forget!

Like Harry Potter? We also offer a Harry Potter family adventure tour of England and Scotland.

ITINERARY:

Monday – DEPART FROM HOME Your vacation begins the moment you board your flight. Destination: EDINBURGH.

Tuesday – EDINBURGH Take a hop-on-hop-off panoramic sightseeing tour of Edinburgh. Tour highlights include Edinburgh Castle, St. Gile’s Cathedral, Burns Monument, National Gallery, and the Palace of Holyrood House.

Wednesday – ALNWICK CASTLE & GARDENS All-day excursion to the estate of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland. Set in a stunning Capability Brown landscape, Alnwick Castle (pronounced Annick) is the second largest inhabited castle in England, after Windsor Castle, and was extensively used for the broomstick flying and Quiddich games in the Harry Potter films. Enjoy the gardens, a spellbinding, mesmerising theatre of water and light. Return to Edinburgh for a traditional Scottish Music Show. (CB,D)

  • Did You Know? Scotland's culture is rich in music, song and story, in both Scots and Gaelic languages - this is the land of the poet Burns and the ceilidh dance. Depending upon your departure date, we can include a highland game or music festival into your itinerary. Experience the heart-swelling spectacle of a lone piper on the castle ramparts, the massed pipe bands of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Musical events take place far and wide, from music festivals - an ideal opportunity to hear the Scottish fiddle in action. Before you know it, you'll be tapping your feet to impromptu sessions at the local pub or taking to the floor and joining in the fun at an organized ceilidh.

Thursday – INVERNESS/LOCH NESS MONSTER Drive alongside Loch Ness, where we enjoy monster hunting at the ruined Urquhart Castle. Nearby, the native Caledonian Pine Forest landscape will take you back in time to how Scotland would have looked 500 years ago. Overnight in a bed and breakfast. (B)

Friday – RIDE THE HARRY POTTER TRAIN/ISLE OF SKYE Ride the Jacobite "Hogwarts Express" steam locomotives. We head by ferry to Skye, and up to Portree, where pastel houses line the harbor. Skye has ruined castles, awesome scenery, Viking fortresses and is home to legendary clans, immersed in Celtic myths & legends. We stop to visit the famous Eilean Donan Castle, used in the film "Highlander" and a James Bond movie. (B)

Saturday – GLEN COE/EDINBURGH Enjoy the mystical mountains of Glencoe. In the 1692 battle here, 40 members of the MacDonald clan were massacred in cold blood by the Campbells for not forswearing the Jacobite cause. They say you can still hear their cries! Our hotel is an authentic 13th century Scottish castle hotel set within acres of wooded parkland on the picturesque banks of the River Esk. (B)

Did You Know? The Scottish Kilt The weave of the cloth, and the way it was worn, tended to be dictated by the custom in a particular area, rather than a family or clan. In the absence of any real evidence to the contrary, it seems that this practice dates back only as far as the early 19th century. Prior to this, clansmen of all standing seemed to have worn a mixture of tartans without any sense of a standardized 'clan' design.

Sunday – EDINBURGH/HOME Board your return flight. Return home with great memories of the new friends you’ve made. (B)
