Coast and Mountains of Dumfries & Galloway

The Tour Itinerary:
Wednesday We meet you at Carlisle Railway Station in the afternoon and take a scenic drive of an hour to our hotel in Kirkcudbright. Before dinner we meet for a drink and the opportunity to meet our fellow guests.
Thursday Our tour today takes us to the west along a coastal route passing the castle of Carsluith and through Newton Stewart to the remote Machairs region. We stop in the bookshop country town of Wigtown and then explore the Christian heritage and fine scenery, go on to the Isle of Whithorn, site of St. Ninians Chapel and then to Whithorn for lunch. In the afternoon we visit the Abbey town of Glenluce and the gardens of Glenwham.
Friday We drive to Dumfries via the Motte of Urr and the old town of Dalbeattie. We stop at the coastal villages of Rockcliffe and Kippford and take a look at the palm trees. Before arriving in Dumfries we pass the prominent hill of Criffell. In the afternoon we go to New Abbey and visit “Sweetheart Abbey”.
Saturday Today is a day of forests and moorland. We go through the town of New Galloway passing Loch Ken and on to Clatterinshaw’s Loch visiting Bruce’s Stone. We then drive through the grandeur of Glen Trool to see the highest mountain in the area, The Merrick. Our lunch stop is in Newton Stewart. Then we drive on the Wigtown Bay and see some historical sites before a tea stop in Gatehouse of Fleet.
Sunday A shorter journey today, with a seaside excursion to Kirkcudbright Bay and Brighouse Bay stopping at the village of Twynholm for coffee. We also visit the town of Castle Douglas by Carlingwark Loch. Our lunch stop and visit is to the gardens of Threave. In the afternoon we travel past Balcary Bay, Orchardton Tower and Dundrennan Abbey back to our hotel.
Monday We depart the hotel after breakfast and transfer you back to Carlisle for your journey home.
