Monumental Tours of the UK’s Rock’n’Roll Landmarks

‘C’mon everybody!’

Seven Day / Six Night tour

This is a tour that rock fans will just not want to miss!! Last year, 2010, marked several massive anniversaries - 50 years since Eddie Cochrane’s death, 40 since the Beatles officially broke up, the first Glastonbury Festival and the death of Jimi Hendrix, 30 since Pink Floyd played ‘The Wall’ at Earls Court and 25 since Live Aid. This year, 2011, is yet another one filled with historical anniversaries, most notably, it’s been 40 years since the world lost Jim Morrison and Bob Marley.

London, Liverpool Cambridge and Manchester, from the 1960s to date their combined rock roll-call is a ‘Hall of Fame’. You’re going to see the sites, hear the stories, enjoy the legends, and party! You’ll also see stunning countryside, ancient castles and stately homes. This is an ideal and unforgettable way for rock fans to see Britain!

Subject to availability, London accommodation is in one of the cities renowned 'rock 'n' roll' hotels and features in many song lyrics.

This tour is available for private groups at the dates of your choice. Cost is based on how many guests traveling.

TENTATIVE ITINERARY

Day 1, Sunday

Our tour commences at 09.00 from the Columbia Hotel, Bayswater. This is London’s rock’n’roll hotel (mentioned in Oasis lyrics amongst many others) so it’s the appropriate place to start the tour! Today, we enjoy a full day discovering the city’s iconic landmarks associated with the Rolling Stones, Beatles, Clapton, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Marc Bolan, Bowie, Radiohead, Coldplay, Queen, Led Zeppelin and more! Our September tour focuses on Jimi Hendrix, who died at a London apartment 40 years ago this very weekend. You’ll see houses where the rock stars lived, died and partied! We have movie and video locations, recording studios, and legendary gig sites. A high point of the day will be taking a walk across Abbey Road.  This evening we enjoy a ‘beggars banquet’ at The Rolling Stones restaurant ‘Sticky Fingers’ together.

NIGHT STOP: London in the Columbia Hotel or Hyde Park Towers Hotel (BB + optional dinner)

Day 2, Monday

Today, we enjoy a day seeing Cambridge and North eastern London. Our featured band is Pink Floyd but we’ll also see sites connected with Iron Maiden, the Kinks, Clash, Rod Stewart and a host of others. You also have free time to enjoy the ancient university city of Cambridge. Tonight, we’ll take you out to find some live music and to see where some of rock greatest moments happened in the clubs and pubs of central London.

NIGHT STOP: London, as above (BB)

Day 3, Tuesday

We depart London stopping first to see several Beatle film locations. Who fans, this is also your day! We’ll see where the band first started and various of the band’s houses. Next we drive to see George Harrison’s house and Dusty Springfield’s grave at the pretty riverside village of Henley. Our route today also takes us past the site where rock was robbed of the great Eddie Cochran in a car crash, fifty years ago this year. We also have a few more rock visits en route focusing on Led Zeppelin and the Stones.

NIGHT STOP: South Wales (BB + dinner)

Day 4, Wednesday

Raglan Castle was built in the 13th century but it was used in Robert Plant’s sequences in ‘The Song Remains the Same’ providing us with a great excuse for going there! Rockland studios are also nearby. We’ll introduce you to Wales’s rock history (Tom Jones, this Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals and Stereophonics amongst them!) There are other Zeppelin sites as we then travel north to Ozzy Osbourne’s Midlands. Tonight we’ll discover the local music scene that gave birth to Black Sabbath and Robert Plant and Jon Bonham (who died 30 years ago this year)!

NIGHT STOP: Wolverhampton/Birmingham area (BB)

Day 5, Thursday

Today the focus is on the Fab Four and we take a Beatle sites tour visiting the boys’ original houses, Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields. Also included on today’s itinerary is the fantastic Beatles Story Exhibition and a ferry ‘cross the Mersey.

Tonight, we’ll have fun at the famed Cavern Club!

NIGHT STOP: Liverpool (BB)

Day 6, Friday

After a visit to the Beatles Story, we take the 50-minute ride to Manchester, the UK’s greatest ‘hidden’ rock secret! ‘What Manchester does today, London does tomorrow’ has been this cities proud boast. Where do we start? Herman’s Hermits, Graham Nash and The Hollies, 10CC, Simply Red, Factory Records, Oasis, The Smiths, The Hacienda and Happy Mondays, John Mayall, Joy Division (it’s the 30th anniversary of Ian Curtis’s suicide), The Buzzcocks, The Bee Gees, Barclay James Harvest, The Verve, The Fall, James, New Order, The Stone Roses… the list is endless. You’ll enjoy a fully-guided tour of the rock sites, stars homes, album covers and lyric references.

NOTE: Those going on to festivals depart by train either this evening or first thing tomorrow (Saturday) morning.

NIGHT STOP: Manchester (BB + optional dinner)
